| Description: | The 2010 Southern Miss Jazz & Blues Festival Under the Friendship Oak will be Saturday, April 3, 2010 | 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. The Steve Warren Band -- Born in Gulfport, Mississippi in 1976, Steve started playing guitar around the age of nine, making up his own tunings, and simply playing by ear. He practiced eight hours a day with no formal training, and soon after, began playing professionally. Jerry Ball is a well known professional musician on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. With a masters degree in music education, a three-year tour of duty in the Navy Show Band, 25 years of teaching, and over 40 years as a professional musician, Jerry has established himself as a band leader as well as a sensational sax player. Larry Panella Jazz Sextet+1 will perform at this year's Jazz & Blues Fest. Panella serves on the faculty of The University of Southern Mississippi as an associate professor of music and director of the jazz studies program and is the founder and leader of the Southern Miss Jazz Quartet. He has performed with numerous artists and entertainers, including the Phil Collins Big Band, the Woody Herman Orchestra, Natalie Cole, Steve Allen, Nelson Riddle and Frank Sinatra, Jr. | |||
