Description:

From AFair in Hernando Website:

AFair in Hernando is an annual event that started in August of 1974. It is now held on the third Saturday of May and has grown each year. All of the activities are held on the historic downtown square in Hernando Mississippi. AFair in Hernando is a rain or shine event and there is no admission fee and parking is free.

The days activities begin at 7:30 am with a 5K run/walk. Registration is held on Center Street across from the courthouse in the Trustmark Bank parking lot.

The artists and crafters have booths on the parking area around the courthouse and down Commerce Street to the Hernando City Hall. In 2011 we had over 200 booths that included pottery, water and oil colors, photography, sewn and knitted items, woodcraft, jewelry and everything in between. Several vendors conduct demonstrations to show the making of their craft.

Local businesses have booths advertising their wares and services. Many have free gifts for those stopping and have drawings for gifts and services. Also the businesses on Commerce Street are open during the AFair in Hernando and many run specials and sales during the event.

The kids zone is located on Commerce Street at City Hall. There are several activities for the kids provided by the Hernando Parks and Recreation Department, vendors with sand art, face painting and many other choices. Inflatable moon bounce and slides are also available. The Desoto County Animal Shelter and the Horn Lake Animal Rescue have animals available for adoption. Mississippi Wildlife Rehabilitation has a booth to teach the young and old about our wildlife.

On the front lawn of the courthouse live entertainment is provided free from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Several local groups perform music from bluegrass to country western and everything in between. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy.

The information center that includes lost and found and first aid is located in front of the Desoto County office building on the southwest corner of the square.

The Hernando Optimist Club hopes you bring your family and have a great time at the AFair in Hernando.
